Family Movie Night Raises Funds for Foster Family Outreach Events
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (October 16, 2019) - Fostering Connections St. Johns, a local nonprofit supporting children in foster care and foster families, held their first annual family fundraiser, Popcorn & Pajamas Family Movie Night, on Saturday, October 12th at Palencia Park.
More than one hundred guests, including families and kids of all ages, were in attendance. With the support of sponsorships, ticket sales and raffles, the event raised more than $1,000 for outreach events for local foster families in St. Johns County. The next outreach event will be assisting the St. Johns County Family Integrity Program with activities for their annual Christmas Party on December 8th.
Flagler Health + acted as Presenting Sponsor for Popcorn & Pajamas Family Movie Night. Additional sponsors included The Gillis Law Firm, O2B Kids!, Palencia Pet Clinic, and Amp Hardcore Gym.
Sponsors Flagler Health + and O2B Kids! were in attendance at Popcorn & Pajamas Family Movie Night to greet guests and provide swag items for the children. The Palencia Elementary K-Kids Club members and the Kiwanis Club of St. Augustine volunteered at the event and had toys for the children. Partners Guardian ad Litem and Fostering Hope at Fruit Cove Baptists Church were also in attendance to share information about their programs.
Guests were treated to a showing of The Secret Life of Pets 2 under the stars with popcorn and cotton candy. Concessions were sponsored by the Hare Family and prepared by Palencia Business Center owner Beth Fine and her husband Mike. There was a raffle with numerous items donated by local businesses.
Local food trucks JoyShtick and About Time Creamery served dinner and desserts to guests. Both food trucks donated a portion of their sales to the fundraiser.
“Our inaugural family fundraiser, Popcorn & Pajamas Family Movie Night, was a success because of the support of our sponsors, donors, and event attendees and the leadership and dedication of our board members and volunteers. The funds we raised will support outreach events for local families, including activities for the upcoming Christmas Party. Continued support allows children in foster care who have experienced great traumas to have fun experiences and enjoy the magic of childhood. We thank our community for supporting our organization and local foster families and look forward to growing this fundraiser every year;” Aubrie Simpson-Gotham, Founder & President stated.
